Sorry guys. Eggbeating with Water Polo is not for me. I enjoy running 11.6 mph on treadmills too much to give it up.
In the mean time, I will occasionally start back up writing in my old blog www.footpowderproverbs.blogspot.com every now and then. Thanks to all my fans and followers for being interested in the things I have to say.
And no thanks to Katie Schlueter because she probably never saw this blog, and never will.
Again: This is my blog I will post too from now on

Listening to the Rain Beats
Paul made a deal to work with me on egg-beating today in exchange for driving him to his girlfriends place yesterday. It's raining now, and neither of us want to go swimming. No worries though, I've got the whole summer with that El Paulo Loco.
I did however make a racket ball play-date with Jake Ellis tonight at 10. I played some pick-up racquetball last Wednesday and had fun. Jake's supposed to be good, and tonight we'll see how the guy who played two years of racquetball leagues in high school (Me) will face up to the multi-talented, tennis and Frisbee legend (Jakers).
I'm considering using this blog to talk about everything athletic I do (sans workout logs because nobody wants to read that shit). Maybe nobody wants to read this shit either.
Happy Mothers Day
Troll question of the day: Directed towards NCAA athletes, how do you find time in your schedule to play other sports?

Fridays
I've spent time outside in the sun errday this week. It's been incredible. I've scheduled more time for sleep, and have spent at least half an hour outside exercising Monday through Friday. When the Frisbee season ended, I said to myself, "Ok cool now I can focus on fitness and enjoy being athletic". Hahaha. Interesting: what was I doing during the Frisbee season? I don't know.
Yesterday (Friday), I planned to meet up with a friend at the rec pool around 2:30. I get their early and decide to just start running outside to get my sweat going before I enter the pool. The idea worked out nicely because my friend texted me saying she would be late, which gave me a good 15 minute run around campus.
Walking into the Rec pool area is scary shit. I accept that people quietly judge other people in their head. It doesn't bother me at all once I accepted that it happens. But as I'm sure you already know, there is some STEEP competition at the Rec pool for looking good. It's an interesting community that I feel as if I'm apart of, but it can be extremely competitive.
Of the 3 hours I stayed at the rec pool, I might have tried eggbeating for 2 minutes of it. Not a successful day at all. Thinking back on it, I wish I had just spent the 3 hours on some run.
The one upside to my athletic day was playing pick up soccer after the rec pool. It was my first time playing soccer at Davis. In the beginning I was scared that not having cleats would fuck me over, but soon began to realize that my two year time span of not kicking a soccer ball kinda did it for me. Either way, it was fun. I felt as if I had a better field perspective than I did in highschool. Some stuff made sense to me such as where they wanted to kick the ball, or where I should kick the ball, or where I should set myself up if I want to stop their offense string plays. I don't remember being as field smart when I was in highschool.
Probably why I was cut from JV my junior year.

Beat It Into My Head
I search for my first Youtube tutorial on how to eggbeater. If a 3 minute video can teach me to play entire songs on piano, how hard could it be to learn an entire sport though the same methods? The video taught me to sit on the edge of a chair and kinda just move my legs in opposite directions like an eggbeater....sweet!
Sorta.... but not really.... helpful.
Luckily my roommate Paul played high school water polo (why I didn't think of this before is beyond me). I run into his room with my chair, sit down, and say, "Am I doing this right?" He looks directly at me and says, "You're doing it completely wrong".
He asks me if I know how to breaststroke kick. I have no clue what that means, but I let him talk more. He sits on the edge of his bed and shows me how to breaststroke kick like a frog. You bring your knees to your chest, open your legs, then kick down extending your knees. Then he tells me to do the left leg first, and then the right leg. Apparently the Eggbeater is this exact movement alternating legs. Duh!
I'm so stoked after trying it on my own bed then I decide to try it out in the pool. It takes me about 45 seconds to go from my room clothed to the pool in only a bathing suit. Bad news is that there are three girls sun tanning out by the pool. It kinda burst my happiness bubble of wanting to test out what I learned in the pool because I didn't want to look like a complete idiot in front of them. Although I had no clue who they were, I felt like learning how to eggbeater in front of them would kill my ego (let alone my swagger).
To work around the situation, I jump into the pool and do two laps back and forth secretly adding in my breaststroke to practice it. I threw in some spins mid-water just so I wouldn't look like a complete weirdo who goes out swimming at a tiny apartment complex pool to swim laps correctly. Then I went to the hot tub to practice alternating legs with eggbeating. It was fun. And by the waves I was making in the hot tub, I think I was making progress. I'm sure the three girls sun tanning still thought I was weird as I was probably the most focused person they've ever seen in a hot tub.

The Goal
I've attempted many things in my life. I've also failed at a bunch of junk too; afterward deciding that it just wasn't for me. Water Polo was one of those things where I failed miserably.
Sometime during middle school I signed up for a two-week water polo program at the local aquatic center. This was a great opportunity for me as I wasn't a consistent swimmer before hand, and I thought I could learn a cool sport in the process. Little did I know that it would be the hardest thing I've ever tried (at that age). I was so exhausted after every single day for the first week that I decided to not go the entire second week.
I've never really thought about picking it up again as I figured it just wasn't for me. For some reason now when water polo was poked back into my head, I realized I was living in a completely different situation. First off, 50 times stronger and more athletically fit. Secondly, I'll have easy access to a pool everyday from now on until school starts up again in the fall. It will also keep me busy in between work and my beloved trails that I run in Davis.
The Plan:
I will work on getting better at water polo everyday. Hopefully I'll post about the stuff I learn, and how I do it. And this is my first post!
